Formmail Announcement

In the ongoing fight against spam being sent through our network via insecure formmail scripts installed upon users accounts, this announcement is to advise the following revisions to our formmail policy:

We will be making the following changes to all servers on Friday 19th March.

All formmail scripts that are installed upon your accounts will need to be renamed to something other than the following:

quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

formmail.cgi
formmail.pl
formmail.php
Formmail.cgi
Formmail.pl
Formmail.php
FormMail.cgi
FormMail.pl
FormMail.php
formMail.cgi
formMail.pl
formMail.php
FORMMAIL.cgi
FORMMAIL.pl
FORMMAIL.php

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Any URLs that contain the above common variations of formmail.* will be forwarded to the following page
(example: This page will be set up on your server, the url being http://your_servername.com/disallowed):

This is to stop the many problems that arise from the scanning and exploitation of these scripts that are installed upon your accounts, which leads to the black listing of your servers IP's due to being contained within email blocking lists.

What will you need to do?

You will need to rename any formmail scripts to something other than the examples above eg. rename them to abfw3.cgi , abfw3.php for example (Please use your own random file names and not these ones)

While these steps will make a significant difference, please remember to keep your scripts updated.
Formmail scripts should still be upgraded as usual.

If you have any questions regarding this, please let us know.

Staff
BigBlueHost

MySQL

We've had some issues with MySQL. It seems that some "performance testing" was done without our permission, which flooded and eventually locked up MySQL entirely. This has now been corrected and we'll keep an eye out for additional problems.
